ProtoCAM
is a rapid prototyping company, using advanced technologies
such as stereolithography (SLA), selective laser sintering
(SLS), machined castings, urethane molding, urethane casting,
and rapid tooling to create prototype parts for designers
and engineers in many industries. ProtoCAM employs 25 and
also does rapid manufacturing and offers manufacturing engineering

Situation:
This project was a cooperative effort between ProtoCAM,
MRC, and DVIRC, one of the seven Industrial Resource
Centers in
the state. ProtoCAM worked with MRC to create and launch
a new website in 2004. After the site was live for
a few months, Ray Biery, ProtoCAM’s Managing Partner,
wanted to expand their online marketing efforts and utilize
advanced search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to
grow the business with the ProtoCAM website. Search terms
relating
to ProtoCAM’s business are very popular and highly
competitive. Mr. Biery comments, “Since we started
our business, almost all of our marketing has been online.
For the last few years, our website has been the main source
of new business.” ProtoCAM uses an outside web developer
and their own internal resources for web updates.
Solution:
ProtoCAM selected DVIRC as a third-party consultant for
a year-long project to continuously enhance their website
and
its contents. Many website improvements were made, adding
more valuable content and a clear call-to-action – a
popular “Request a Quote Now” button. DVIRC
worked to boost the reputation of the site across the
web by building quality, relevant inbound
links from other good websites. Along with these and
other advanced
SEO techniques, ProtoCAM also engaged in additional web
marketing with various online industrial marketing services.
Results:
Monthly traffic to the website has doubled from a year
ago. The website is currently ranked in the top 30
on Google for
about 40 different search phrases that are often used
by customers looking for ProtoCAM’s services. The site
is also well ranked on all other major search engines. Because
of these good search engine rankings, referrals that specifically
came from search engines have also doubled. But web traffic
and search engine rankings are worthless if the visitors
are not good prospects and are not converted into customers.
In fact, hundreds of good sales prospects have found ProtoCAM
via Google and other search engines. ProtoCAM continues to
work with DVIRC and MRC to continuously improve their website
and other online marketing efforts.
