This course is designed specifically for individuals who have never taken a mechanical drawing course. This course employs a blended learning curriculum which includes instructor-led lectures/discussions, demonstration models to enhance learning, supplemental videos, and intensive in-class, hands-on exercises involving reading and interpreting blueprints. CAD and solid modeling are discussed and put into context, however this is a foundational course and, as such, students will learn fundamentals which may stimulate a desire to pursue CAD or solid modeling as a follow-on course.
This course will provide students with a solid foundation in “the language of industry” and an introductory level of competency in beginning blueprint reading. Students will be prepared for employment involving blueprint reading and for further study.
Instructional Guidance Checklist:
- Foundational presentation/discussion (a new way of thinking; alphabet of lines; isometric and orthographic projection; scale; tolerance);
- Between twenty and thirty-five hands-on exercises (to include models as needed), depending on course length;
- Two “instructor assessments” (check-up quizzes) to ascertain instructor’s effectiveness in conveying material before advancing to next level of the subject.
Target Audience: Students who have had minimal or no exposure to mechanical drawing or blueprint reading
Cost: $300/person, $250/person if 3 or more persons
Dr. Donna Cubberly
Technical Procedure Writer, Technical Process Procedure Consultant
WCH Professional Services, LLC
Walnutport, PA 18088
Donna is a methods engineer with over thirty years of experience at twelve corporations in researching, developing and documenting procedures and processes to fabricate, manufacture, assemble, restore and rehabilitate in a wide variety of project environments. Donna retired early from private industry to focus on what she loves doing which is researching and documenting the way to do a job correctly. Donna thrives on doing the painstaking research required in order to get “right” results the first time. She became increasingly confounded regarding the common denominator in the various companies at which she had worked, which is: There is never enough time to do a job correctly the first time, but there is always enough time to do it over. This became an enormous source of frustration for Donna and provided the fuel she needed to specialize in this important area.
