PATH: Section 41 Federal
Research & Experimentation  PA Research & Development Tax Credits

Although PATH: Section 41 has a well-deserved reputation for complexity and uncertainty for taxpayers, nonetheless these tax credits remain a valuable source of support to businesses that conduct qualified research and development.

Are you aware of any government sponsored incentives rewarding manufacturers?  Are you aware that money that you have paid in taxes is available to companies that are spending time and resources getting better at what they do?

For Federal Tax Credits:
Has your company been profitable the past three years? Have you been paying tax the past
three years? Are the shareholders in AMT? (Alternative Minimum Tax)

OTHER QUESTIONS: In the past 3 years…
1. Have you made any process improvements?
2. Experimented with new materials?
3. Improved existing products?
4. Developed new products?
5. Worked on any manufacturing efficiencies: Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, ISO Certifications?
6. Spent time, money and resources staying competitive?
7. Figured out how you’ll make and price a bid, spec, job or change order?
8. Rolled out any ideation in the past 3 years?
9. Developed any internal use software (IUS) or operations IT?
10. Paid a consultant for any of the above?

Have there been changes in
Products or investment in the business?
Production or operations?
Formulation, processes or techniques?
Software development or operational IT projects?

What was done, who was involved and how much time did it take? Still ongoing?
What is the current business strategy, growth, stability, retrenchment?

If you are interested in learning more about how to qualify and how much you could be eligible for; if you need help navigating the complexities of these tax incentives, this Lunch and Learn is for you!
