Inspiring the Next Generation: Lehigh Valley Dream Team

Inspiring the Next Generation: Lehigh Valley Dream Team

In January, PA Dream Team volunteers gathered to meet new members and to offer STEM presentations highlighting careers in manufacturing at schools that are scheduled around the Lehigh Valley during the spring semester.  Lunch is served, new members meet veteran members in person and mentoring partnerships are formed.

Dream Team members visit classrooms with high-impact interactive presentations to excite students about the world of manufacturing. Not only is the program great for students, but Dream Team members also receive professional development in leadership and communications skills that hone their professional development.

The focus of the January meeting was on personal learning styles and how to create activities with diverse learning approaches for the classroom. Damir Chiaramonte, shared his classroom activity which is one he custom created for students to problem solve circuit issues to exemplify what he does in his job as a Maintenance Technician IV  – Damir Chiaramonte at Bosch Rexroth.

New members receive tools of the trade—Dream Team tote bags, notepads, calendars and measuring tapes to make planning a hands-on session just a bit easier.  All members receive a Dream Team polo shirt, a uniform that is worn proudly to school and public appearances.

Four new Dream Team Trainees were welcomed to the Lehigh Valley Dream Team:

  • Nicole LoCastro, Lead Laboratory Technician at JR PETERS INC
  • Felix Silverio, Electronics Service Tech at JULABO USA, Inc.
  • Jason Henning, Production Operator at, FreshPet
  • Samuel Goff, Technical Engineering Functions at Bosch Rexroth

Each Dream Team member is dedicated to encouraging our youth to consider careers in manufacturing by sharing their career stories and providing hands-on projects that exemplify problem-solving and teamwork. skills needed in the real world. Since its inception, the Dream Team has visited with over 4,000 students as they share their passion for job opportunities available in manufacturing. They tell their specific career journeys via a power point presentation and discussion of education, required course work, beneficial internships and day to day job duties.

The success of the PA Dream Teams has now become a national model. This innovative program is made possible through sponsorships from Bosch Rexroth and Lutron in partnership with MRC.
