A recent Kentucky Tour: Lean Culture Immersion | Go, See, and Learn at the Original Gemba, organized by Gene Kaschak of the Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC), brought together 32 leaders from prominent Lehigh Valley companies like Crayola, Victaulic, East Penn Manufacturing, Bosch Rexroth, and smaller agile companies alike. Participants were immersed in the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky facility, where Lean culture first took root in the U.S., gaining insights into best practices and innovative strategies for continuous improvement. The experience underscored the importance of empowering employees and fostering a culture of problem-solving.
Building on this foundation, the tour also visited manufacturers at various stages of their Lean journey, like Linak and Hitachi Astemo, where participants observed how Lean principles were driving operational efficiency and workforce engagement. The opportunity to witness firsthand the real-world applications of these methodologies energized participants to implement similar practices within their own companies, strengthening local industry competitiveness.
