Harrisburg, PA – In an effort led by members of the Manufacturing Caucuses of both the Pennsylvania House and Senate, both houses of the Pennsylvania General Assembly approved formal resolutions designating May 12, 2015 as “Industrial Resource Center Appreciation Day” within the commonwealth.
The resolution recognizes that Pennsylvania manufacturers contributed $77.4 billion to gross state product last year, making Pennsylvania the 8th largest manufacturing state. Together, Pennsylvania’s manufacturers employ more than 558,000 workers and provide a total of $31.5 billion in payroll each year.
The resolution applauded the impact that the Industrial Resource Centers (IRCs) have had upon Pennsylvania’s manufacturing sector, as reported by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Over the past 10 years, technical services delivered by the IRCs have enabled their manufacturing clients to realize over $7.4 trillion in sales impact and over $636 million in bottom-line savings. The IRCs facilitated over $1.5 billion in manufacturer investment in Pennsylvania over the past 10 years and, according to third-party analysis, have positively impacted over 56,000 manufacturing jobs since 2005.
During 2014 alone, IRC clients reported $634 million in revenue impact and $77 million in cost savings as results of their IRC engagements. Those engagements also created 1,271 manufacturing jobs and enabled manufacturers to retain 3,631 jobs that would have otherwise been lost.
Jack Pfunder, President and CEO of Manufacturers Resource Center, the IRC that serves the Lehigh Valley, Berks, Carbon & Schuylkill counties, is grateful for this recognition. “There’s another message that Harrisburg sends to manufacturers today. Pennsylvania knows manufacturing matters. This enables Industrial Resource Centers like MRC to work exclusively with small and mid-sized manufacturers to introduce them to new technologies, accelerate their innovation, and enhance their operations through continuous improvement.”
