*New* Practical Process Mapping: Cross-Functional Swim Lane Analysis for Operational Improvement

Event Date:

March 2, 2027

Event Time:

8:30 AM

Event Location:

Manufacturers Resource Center, 7200A Windsor Drive, Allentown, PA, 18106, USA

Many process problems persist not because people don’t understand their work, but because no one truly sees the full process end-to-end.

This one-day workshop introduces a practical, hands-on approach to Process Mapping with a strong focus on Swim Lane diagrams, helping teams visualize workflows across departments, roles, and functions to uncover inefficiencies and improve flow.

Participants will learn how to map real processes step-by-step using Swim Lane methodology, clearly distinguishing responsibilities and handoffs between individuals, departments, and systems. The emphasis is on making invisible work visible—highlighting delays, redundancies, rework loops, and unclear ownership that typically drive inefficiency and frustration.

Through guided exercises and real-world examples, attendees will practice building current-state process maps and identifying opportunities for improvement. The workshop introduces structured techniques to analyze process flow, identify non-value-added steps, and redesign workflows for clarity, speed, and accountability.

A key focus is improving cross-functional alignment. By visually mapping how work actually moves through an organization, teams gain a shared understanding of where breakdowns occur and how to eliminate them. Participants will also learn how Swim Lane mapping supports other Lean tools such as PDCA, standard work, and continuous improvement initiatives.

By the end of the session, attendees will have a practical framework for mapping, analyzing, and improving processes in their own work environment. They will leave with the ability to facilitate process mapping sessions and use Swim Lane diagrams as a tool for
driving clearer communication, better handoffs, and measurable process improvement.
